The medical committee when first formed had a strong presence in the community. They meet with both current medical facilities and worked towards laying a foundation for a 24/7 facility. Some of the concepts discussed included the development of a cooperative office between the two facilities already serving the valley, addition of a 24/7 clinic to the Mountain View Manor along with discussing the option of either of the current facilities expanding to a 24/7 based facility.

Both the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department and the Eureka Volunteer Ambulance were able to obtain newer vehicles and continue to be invaluable to the area.

The West Kootenai Community saw the development of the West Kootenai Fire Protection Company and the Trego/Fortine/Stryker Volunteer Fire Department was able to construct a 2nd fire hall in the Fortine area. There is some concern regarding staffing of the volunteer departments. The medium age of the crews continues to climb with little interest from the young generations. There is a potential to work with the Town of Eureka, Lincoln County and the organizations to determine a way to move towards a paid crew. Another concern regarding volunteers is that businesses/employers are concern with the amount of time that their volunteers have to give to ambulance and fire departments. Due to the residential growth, the emergency volunteers have to go further out and calls are more often and longer.

The TVCDC still sees this as a viable committee and is working on recruiting members to work on this committee. Some of the other concern/opportunities this committee could work on are:
  • Working with all the volunteer fire departments to obtain equipment and personal protective gear
  • Work with the West Kootenai Fire Protection Company to build a Town Hall
  • Work with the Ambulance and Fire Departments on recruiting younger volunteers
  • Potentially work with the current facilities towards a 24/7 care facility
  • Work with the Senior Citizens to build a new center and expand their services
  • Town of Eureka is looking at building a new Justice Center
