The Tobacco
Valley is a beautiful place to live, to raise a family and to
retire. Historically, the area has been dependent upon the natural
resources and services provided through the National Forest and
other state and federal lands. Currently, citizens in the Tobacco
Valley have seen a movement to a more guarded use of the federal
lands and are apprehensive with the future vitality and success of
the Tobacco Valley. creating a well-defined plan is an important
step to identify diversification and growth opportunities as a
community so the integrity and the culture of the valley remain
based on the existing ways of life and the environment.

The
intent of the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) is to recognize how the
Tobacco Valley can develop and expand its economic base. Planning
and identifying other economic and community opportunities outside
of the natural base extraction industry will encourage the Tobacco
Valley to explore other economic avenues. The SAP will provide an
overview of the past, the present and will be a guide to identifying
projects that will enhance the valley's community and economic
future.

Strategic Planning
The Tobacco Valley Community Development Council (TVCDC) completed a 5 year strategic plan in 2005. The purpose of the plan was to identify the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunity within the Tobacco Valley. The TVCDC plans on completing a yearly addendum to the Strategic Plan to keep it a current and useful document. Out of the planning sessions, the TVCDC formed eight Project Committees. Each Committee has worksheets that they fill out. Those worksheets then become part of the strategic plan.
